Tradition Gigondas

$27.99

Mainly Grenache with some Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, the Gigondas Tradition is a captivating wine, rich, spicy, well-balanced, powerful and yet very elegant. The wine spends 6-8 months in oak cask in which a gently oxidation takes place, thus naturally and harmoniously increasing the aromatic complexity of this wine. The Rhone valley enjoyed a near perfect 2011 except for some untimely showers raining on the parade. The fruit ripening was even. This wine shows the brawniness of Gigondas with earthiness, gripping tannins, ample perfume and red fruits. The latter makes it a wine that is so drinkable now, but will reward patience in 8- 10 years developing complexity along the way. Buy a case and drink a couple every year and see how Gigondas can evolve. Don’t just take my word for it. The critics said these about the 2011 Jeb Dunnuck of The Wine Advocate 90 points “The traditionally-styled 2011 Gigondas Tradition is a blend of 72% Grenache, 23% Syrah and the balance Mourvedre and Cinsault that was aged all in foudre. It has loads of charm with notions of underbrush, pepper, saddle leather and smoked mesquite-like aromas and flavors to go with a medium-bodied, moderately concentrated, yet beautifully balanced profile on the palate.” Josh Raynolds of Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar 90 POINTS “Bright ruby. Fresh raspberry and Asian spices on the floral nose. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering pliant red fruit and floral pastille flavors and a touch of allspice. Closes silky and long, with lingering spiciness and soft, even tannins. This is drinking very nicely right now.”
